The Curse of Being Raised Human?

“Humans are almost always lonely.”

Frank Herbert, Dune
Sometimes, like when my children are in bed to have some chance of getting enough sleep to both grow and learn, and the kids literally next door are beating on a paint lid drum in the back yard, I wonder if raising human children in this morally and mentally fallen world is the kindest thing to do.

If we feel increasingly lonely and isolated in a self centered and nihilistic culture, how much lonelier will the next generation be?

    1. I know but that quote from Dune came to mind, the Reverend Mother wondered if loneliness should be part of the training and tests of her order.

  2. God-fearing parents have always raised their children as "sheep among wolves." The simple mechanics of the thing dictates that Judeo-Christian societies should have died off long ago. They didn't though, and therein lies a miracle that's as telling of God's existence as the parting of the Red Sea. Don't give up on raising your kids the way they SHOULD be raised. The pendulum ALWAYS swings back the other way, as people come to see the errors of their ways. When that happens, your children may have to actually show them the way home...

    1. I would actually say most good parents raise their kids to be sheepdogs. To be between the sheep and the wolves.

    2. Not to sound arrogant, but if the one eyed man is king in the land of the blind, then I'm aiming for royalty with my children.

I'm just under no illusion that it will be a beloved royalty of thankful subjects.
