In my opinion... spending billions so 10 bureaucrats a year can put "astronaught" on their resumes is not what I would call "good news". The manned space program needed to die and the ISS needs to be decommissioned. It's a money pit with zero actual returns. And it will be the first thing the aliens or terrorists destroy on their way to claiming earth. --generic
If the gov is gonna put so many regulatory hurdles on private space flight, then unfortunately people will seek funding for such.
And I don't view asteroid mining or moving off a single rock as a hobby. Ideally to me, you take the regulations off manned spaceflight and let people know that for quite some time it's gonna be like the early days of aircraft.
