Okay the Bilderburgers are meeting and everyone is in full NEW WORLD ORDER conspiracy mode but I figured I'd advance a modest theory of my own.
Say you want to not have to share your country clubs or prep schools with some grubby snot whose father started by unclogging toilets as a plumber(never mind that he now employs a hundreds plumbers in dozens of states). So you support increasing income tax(you already have your family's money accumulated) and you use this money to pay for welfare programs that both discourage upward mobility and provide an ignorant power base you paid off with money from the uppity peasants you're excluding.
