Assualt rifles stolen from Army Base, ATF tells pesants weeks later.
Now remember kids all illegally obtained guns come from gun shows and greedy gun stores. Pay no attention to stories like 27 fully-automatic(presumably) AKs from an Army base.
And pay no attention to BATFE keeping this crime secret for so long because it didn't fit their narrative.

UK Judge "understands" pedophile.
After saying “I don‘t criticise you for being a teacher who’s attracted to children.” “Many teachers are but they keep their urges under control both when it comes to children and when it comes to images of children,” a UK Judge gave the pervert a suspended sentence.
Similar cases in the US have led to minimum sentencing laws but there is a deeper problem. When a tipping point of the population, even a minority, doesn't believe that the courts will dispense justice bad things happen.
Judges like this and their colleges in the US who take vague laws and twist them to suit their agenda chip away at the belief people have in the system working. This will not end well if it continues.

Why I go armed Pt.....
Homeless druggie in LA pulls a baby out of a stroller and slings him into a lamp-post. We don't live in Mayberry and even it never was what people thought it was.
I even realize how paranoid it sounds that my firearm goes on my belt in the morning and only comes off when I go to bed. I have to reply with a quote from Tolkien:

More video of everyone's favorite sensitive community oriented police officer(Harless of Canton PD) has come to light. Exactly what about this defuses the situation or secures the suspect. Others have said it seems like Harless wants to be in a situation where he shoots someone and I have to agree.

Aint Ded
Sorry for not posting anything between happenings of Sunday(to be posted about once that job is either accepted or not in contention anymore) and other life I've been feeling to far behind events to even snark about them.
I'm interviewing at a bank tomorrow, I'll not be wearing the STI Spartan that I wore to my second interview with the gun store.
Hopefully normal blog service will resume shortly.

Question
What do you wear to a second interview that takes place on a shooting range(outdoors)?
Presumably not this.

Pretty much everybody has been writing on this video out of Canton, Ohio.
I'm not sure what I can add to this other than be careful out there, not everyone with a badge views themselves as they should.

Creepy Van Guy > TSA
Thanks Creepy Van Guy, we never appreciated you untill someone worse came along.

10. At least makes the offer of candy
9. After molesting you, he won’t rifle through your possessions looking for something to confiscate
8. If Creepy Van Guy is on break, you can still go play on the playground
7. Creepy Van Guy uses fresh gloves
6. Creepy Van won’t give you cancer
5. Creepy Van Guy will let you bring more than 3oz of liquid with you
4. He knows he’s creepy and has the potential to feel bad about it
3. No PSA on TV trying to tell you how good Creepy Van Guy really is
2. Creepy Van Guy’s actions are not financed by public taxes
And the number one reason Creepy Van Guy is better than the TSA
1. You are morally justified in using lethal force against someone trying to molest you. With Creepy Van Guy, you just won’t go to jail for doing it.

Worth it?
So after flooding Mexico with guns Operation Fast and Furious(aka Gunwalker scandal), has exactly one person still in jail. I'd also like to know when we started classifying 18 to 25 year old people as children, didn't we pass an amendment lowering voting age because we still classify them as potential cannon-fodder?
Somebody please explain to me again how this was about arresting people for illegally trafficking weapons and not about making an excuse to crack-down on RKBA(right to keep and bear arms). The more that comes from this the harder it is not to be "paranoid".

Say WTF?
Not to second guess the guys on the scene but sometimes you've gotta second guess the guys on the scene. Now based on the information I have one Conneticut cop shot another when he decided to engage a suspected pervert at a Harry Potter showing.
1. The claim is that the officers fired when the pervert reached into his waistband(other explanations present themselves) I'm not sure the cult of officer safety should cover "intuitive threat assessment" when...
2. This a theater presumably crowded with minors going to see a movie. The PD(and their liablity insurer) should be singing prayers of thanks that officer never heard of rule four only managed to plug his backup and not a photogenic five year old.
3. Two shots(out of god knows how many fired hit) hit people, one hitting this low-level pervert(if he was known violent why were they confronting him in a crowded theater) in the foot and another hitting a fellow officer in the arm. So officer dead-eye didn't even shoot well when he felt compelled to bring high-velocity lead into this situation.
If more on this comes out I'll update this story and if some circumstance comes out to somehow justify it I'll update this story.

A win for the good guys.
An Iraq war veteran held a burglar at gunpoint until the police arrived. The scumbag in question was attempting to steal among other things the man's metals(a hint that things might not go well for you if the homeowner catches you). The police have to work in obligatory anti-vigilante statement #1 but frankly since this guy is ex-Special Forces(according to the story) he has probably forgotten more about close-quarters combat than the local "SWAT" team has ever learned in their every-other weekend let's dress up like ninjas parties training sessions.

Tab Clearing
Yet again life interferes with blogging so I'm going to have to clear these tabs, hopefully normally scheduled snark will resume this weekend.
I'm not sure I trust the BATFE to run a gun buyback program even if I approved of these handy ways for felons to dispose of incriminating evidence. Especially given that we are now seeing Gunwalker II in Central-America(lookout Canada there are even more border states that they could slap new gun-store reporting requirements on after a botched "sting" up north). And in related new the soon to be punished whistle-blower on this whole mess is saying that we paranoid people are right(good thing I'm not in therapy this would be a major setback).
Tam pointed me to a story about the Federal Government trying to get a judge to order a woman to decrypt incriminating info on her laptop. One of the government lawyers compared it to compelling someone to give up a key to a safe with incriminating evidence, wrong, this is more like a combination locked safe without an object you may seize. You may seize it(with a warrant) you may open it(if you can) but you can't force someone to tell you the combination.
Just to show you how wonderful being dependent on the government is I came across this story of a riot for public housing vouchers. Pictures of this story make it harder for me to not stereotype people.

BATFE to require gun shops in border states to report multiple sales of rifles to individual within 5 days. As I've commented elsewhere what is to stop Jose Strawbuyer from buying one gun a week from every gun shop within 200 miles? Further since none of these would appear on the "database" this would tend to hamper investigation as the bureaucracy tries to justify it's new toy. Never mind that it will do nothing to stop the BATFE from doing another "sting" operation to justify more funding and power.
Surprise, surprise: Obama has appointed a self-hating Jew to the Supreme Court. A private writer has done the vetting that the Senate and the Media failed to do. Justice Kaegan has supported Sharia law which would at best reduce her to second class citizen on multiple occasions.
View from the Porch pointed me to the real "Triangle of Death".
The body of a 9 year old Jewish boy in NYC has been found and a suspect is in custody. The way the police are carefully not releasing the name of the suspect(normally they trumpet it to everyone who isn't even listening) makes me think that the suspect will not be named Christian Anderson.

I'll take none of the above.
In a famous radio comedy act the penny pinching Jack Benny is accosted by a mugger who demands "Your money or your life." when he doesn't respond the mugger gets impatient at which point Mr. Benny tells him that he's thinking it over.
Weerd Beard has written an excellent post pointing out that we the non-agressors have very little assurance that someone willing to kill you for your money will not go ahead and kill you after he has it. The people who say that things aren't worth killing or being killed over fail to realize that the armed robber has already determined that your money is worth killing over, do you really want to trust your life(or your loved ones) to the expectation that this is all that is worth killing over to this individual?

Picture Lacking Range Report Pt. 1: CZ-52
A good day shooting. I'm going to start my picture lacking range report with my favorite pistol of those I own.
Note I said my favorite not my most accurate or powerful. The Czechoslovakians were not happy with the geopolitics that left them behind the Iron-Curtain so while most Russian satellites just reproduced whatever the USSR made for infantry weapons they Czechs never passed up a chance to be as different as they could without having Russian tanks in their streets.
One of the unique things about the CZ-52 compared to the Russian equivalent is that the Czechs supposedly made their pistol to be able to shoot hot loaded sub-machine gun ammo that if it were to be shared with their Russian "friends" would have a decent chance of blowing up their pistols when they went to shoot deserters. The nice thing for the 52 owner then is that you can pretty much shoot any cheap 7.62x25mm ammo that you can find.
The challenges are multiple. The sights are thin and difficult to pick up quickly. The grip is long and narrow so it is easy to shoot wide to either side. Finally due to the firing-pin safety(nice for not having a slam fire or similar problem) the single-action only trigger is heavy(meaning it is also easy to shoot very high or low) and has a tendency to abuse your trigger finger.
So why is this gun my favorite. Well besides the fact that my wife gave it to me a few Christmases ago(yes we give eachother guns and yes we are still happily married so go find your own), like the Czechs I enjoy being the "odd duck" and pulling out a cold war relic from a relatively small country typically qualifies you for odd. Even if the other shooters somehow miss you breaking out this gun the concussion as it starts sending out bullets half-again as fast(1500-1600fps up to 500mps for my metric audience) as their .40 S&W quickly gets noticed. The ejection is to say the least positive(spent shells kicked 10-15yards), but since the ammo isn't typically reloadable this simply means that if you aren't at the right end of the firing line your brass typically sails over whoever you are shooting with.
There is a wonderful sweet-spot of accuracy within this gun. As I've said it isn't an easy gun to shoot well, but when you do it seems more rewarding. I was actually shooting this gun better today than my CCW(more on what that some other time), I'm far from the world's most experienced pistol shooter but my 7 yard groups were staying in the 8 ring and I was shooting at a quick but not unaimed pace.
I was also shooting with people who have forgotten more about marksmanship than I will ever have the time to learn, still going against my own previous performance with the gun I'm pleased with myself. As a bit of post shooting fun with this gun you typically get to surprise someone as you break it down to clean it. Since the communist surplus ammo is corrosive I typically field-strip the gun at the range and squirt Windex down the barrel to wash out the corrosive salts(there are more ways of cleaning corrosive ammo but this is what I was taught) after swabbing it and then running a Hoppe's #9 patch down it the gun will safely keep until you clean it that night. After years and thousands of rounds(ah cheap surplus ammo where are you going?) my barrel has no rust or signs of corrosion.
As always any day shooting is better than those spent with a great many other activities.

Off to shoot
Tomorrow I'm going to go shoot on a friend's private range. I'll be at least taking my favorite pistol, my wife's .308 Brazilian Mauser, and my CCW.
I'll write a range report if possible though since we will mostly be shooting steel targets there might not be many pictures.

Police officers are starting to wear digital video cameras, every good cop should love to wear these every thug with a badge will fight this every step of the way.
You know how sharks will bump something to see if it's dangerous before they come in to bite it. Iranian speedboats are starting to play chicken with warships to see if they will shoot(even warning shots). Anyone wanna take a sucker's bet that the one after the boat that doesn't get fired upon has explosives in it?
Larry Correia does a better job flaying gunwalker than I could, not suprising since he's a best selling author and I'm not.
Spree shooter in Michigan kills himself, notice all references to him being a convicted felon are at the end of the story and no reference made that being a felon means he can't legally own firearms. All the Brady campaign will shrill is a GUN CRIME never mentioning that said individual was already banned from firearms ownership.

Will the real liberators please step forward.
Bleeding heart "humanitarians" are clamoring for places on a flotilla to allow humanitarian supplies into Gaza, apparently they simply aren't getting enough Mercedes and Jacuzzi tubs. Even the Red Cross admits there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Such makes you wonder why Hamas wants unmonitored sea deliveries.
Meanwhile a new flotilla is sailing to Muslim lands to try to evacuate those repressed by Sharia law. I wonder why we haven't heard of this?

Mexico wants to prosecute Obama administration officials over BATFE supplying guns to the Cartels. Much as I don't want this precedent set it would be so deliciously ironic if it would happen.
At the same time Mexico and Obama want to stop the execution of a scumbag who raped and murdered a sixteen year old girl in Texas. Sorry are these "poor souls" effectively American because they came here as children therefore we must pass the Dream act, or are they foreign nationals who deserve consultation from their consulates? My advice to Mexico would be pick a different poster-boy because this one isn't doing your image any favors.

For Pimpley Bum
I found this story a few days to late to salute Pimpley Bum in time for Dominion Day, but I would like to share it now in honor of our neighbors to the north and the awesome badassery that they can get up to when they feel the need.
A private in the Regiment de la Chaudiere, Leo Major got his first taste of combat during the Normandy landings, where he single-handedly captured a German half-track and had his left eye burned out with white phosphorus. After successfully arguing that he shouldn't be sent back to Canada, since he only needed his right eye to look down the sights of his rifle (an argument as logically sound as it was existentially terrifying), he kept fighting across France, Belgium and Holland.
In 1945, a Canadian army company was captured while patrolling near the German-held Dutch town of Zwolle. The Canadians decided to bring up the heavy guns and level the whole damn town, but first, they needed to know where the Germans were, and perhaps also to contact the Dutch resistance to see if they would terribly mind being exploded today. Major and a friend, Willie Arsenault, volunteered for the exceptionally dangerous scouting mission inside the town about to be blown to hell.
And then they thought: Fuck that. Why waste a perfectly good town? Wouldn't it be better if they just captured the damn thing themselves while they were down there? Seeing no problem with that plan, they each took a machine gun and waited until nightfall. Under cover of darkness, the two man crept toward the first outpost covering the approach to the town. Unfortunately (for the Germans), the sentry heard them coming and fired at the noise, killing Arsenault.
Major took the gun out of his dead friend's hands and charged down the whole damn town. He shot the sentry and the guy next to him (and probably the horse they rode in on). The rest of the Germans in the bunker fled, leaving behind a small ammunition dump. Major strapped a captured German machine gun, Arsenault's leftover weapon and his own rifle to his back, then filled a sack with grenades and made his way toward the town center. As I've said before it's good to have good neighbors(on one side at least). If for nothing else than showing haji that even their beard growing skills are far inferior.
He spent the rest of the night ambushing patrols in the town, most of which fled (understandably) from the guy swinging the grenade sack dressed in a jacket made out of machine guns. He found the local SS Headquarters, kicked down the front door and killed most of the death squad inside, then set fire to the Gestapo HQ and continued to hurl grenades at isolated groups of German soldiers until the entire force fled the town. Then Major spent the rest of the morning trying to convince everybody that it was safe to come out; the townsfolk were still all in hiding.
Probably not from the Germans.

Why I carry a gun even in my own house.
I once read an interesting retorical gun question: If someone kicked in your door right now could you do more than change the channel?
This case illustrates that point as well as why minorities should also be law abiding firearms carriers.
Every morning I put on my firearm with my pants, and there's a firearm on the back of the toilet when I take a shower. It might not make a difference but I want to have that chance if odds crap out on me.
So I pose this question to you dear hypothetical readers, are you safe in the picture below or zombie chow?

How much "Journalism" can you buy for $5,000.00?
Wiston Churchill is reputed to have once asked a woman if she would sleep with him for five million pounds, when she replied that she probably would he asked if she would for five pounds. The woman asked, "What type of woman do you think I am?" He replied, "Madam we've already established what kind of woman you are, now we are haggling over price."
The anti-gun Joyce foundation paid a a $5,000.00 "grant" to a "journalist" for the Columbus Ohio newspaper to write a three part series on gun violence. In what should suprise nobody writer of negotiable virtue Theodore Decker went down on that offer like the rent was due and bent over forward to please those who solicited his services.
I'd like to take a moment to imagine the howls from certain quarters if the NRA gave "grants" to people who wrote about guns used in self defense(Jay G would be able to afford to move to a free state). Now that my imaginary ears are deafened by the hypothetical outrage, I would like to say I as a libertarian don't have a problem with people soliciting professional to help them fulfill their unrealistic fantasies. However it strains my credulity when said panderers claim this is anything but a pleasant business transaction. Theodore Decker should be proud of the field he has plowed for the Joyce foundation, he should unashamedly advertise his $1666.67 per concocted fantasy going rate(unless this was part of a bulk price of three).
Walk the street with pride Theodore Decker and let every Johnathan Thomas and Benjamin Dover know that you are a professional journalist available to all.

Walk the street with pride Theodore Decker and let every Johnathan Thomas and Benjamin Dover know that you are a professional journalist available to all.
And the only dinner they bought us was Government-Cheese.
Just in case you nourished any speck of optimism about Washington DC getting the crushing national debt under some measure of control, the Wall Street Journal published an article by Lawerence B. Lindsey showing just how cooked the books are.
So to sum up that raw chaffed feeling from your rectum isn't going away any time soon.
First, a normalization of interest rates would upend any budgetary deal if and when one should occur. At present, the average cost of Treasury borrowing is 2.5%. The average over the last two decades was 5.7%. Should we ramp up to the higher number, annual interest expenses would be roughly $420 billion higher in 2014 and $700 billion higher in 2020.So instead of facing the true cost of borrowing all this money we are passing it on in the form of infation to anyone who owns US money in any amount.
The 10-year rise in interest expense would be $4.9 trillion higher under "normalized" rates than under the current cost of borrowing. Compare that to the $2 trillion estimate of what the current talks about long-term deficit reduction may produce, and it becomes obvious that the gains from the current deficit-reduction efforts could be wiped out by normalization in the bond market.
The second reason for concern is that official growth forecasts are much higher than what the academic consensus believes we should expect after a financial crisis. That consensus holds that economies tend to return to trend growth of about 2.5%, without ever recapturing what was lost in the downturn.
But the president's budget of February 2011 projects economic growth of 4% in 2012, 4.5% in 2013, and 4.2% in 2014. That budget also estimates that the 10-year budget cost of missing the growth estimate by just one point for one year is $750 billion. So, if we just grow at trend those three years, we will miss the president's forecast by a cumulative 5.2 percentage points and—using the numbers provided in his budget—incur additional debt of $4 trillion. That is the equivalent of all of the 10-year savings in Congressman Paul Ryan's budget, passed by the House in April, or in the Bowles-Simpson budget plan.So we should all actually pray really hard that Keynesian economics actually work for the first time in history so that we are only as screwed as the congressional budget office says.
Third, it is increasingly clear that the long-run cost estimates of ObamaCare were well short of the mark because of the incentive that employers will have under that plan to end private coverage and put employees on the public system. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has already issued 1,400 waivers from the act's regulations for employers as large as McDonald's to stop them from dumping their employees' coverage. So the bill is now passed and just a Pelosi said we are finding out what is in it. Does anyone want to make a bet that this is the only "unintended" consequence of Obamacare?
But a recent McKinsey survey, for example, found that 30% of employers with plans will likely take advantage of the system, with half of the more knowledgeable ones planning to do so. If this survey proves correct, the extra bill for taxpayers would be roughly $74 billion in 2014 rising to $85 billion in 2019, thanks to the subsidies provided to individuals and families purchasing coverage in the government's insurance exchanges.
So to sum up that raw chaffed feeling from your rectum isn't going away any time soon.

Contrast.
Police officer worthy of respect and assistance from all law abiding citizens.
Thug with a badge.
Any questions?
I know I'm quick to point out Police abuses to liberty, but these two cases show the two types of officers people deal with. Much like officers don't get the courtesy of a sign to differentiate dangerous criminals from law abiding citizens, we don't get a sign to differentiate Officer Lyon from Officer Hooper. The thugs with badges make the lives of real Police more difficult and dangerous, real Police officers and prosecutors need to realize this and stop protecting them.
I plead to all good police out there. A time will come soon when you will need the support of law abiding citizens and if we see nothing but thugs with badges things will go well for nobody.

Questions unasked.
The media is a atwitter because a child of 5 shot a child of 4 on the playground. The gun grabbers are rushing to the microphone like vultures to a carcass. There are some questions the media isn't asking:
- Would the mother have even been legal to own a gun?
- The story mentions an uncle and the mother nothing about a father?
- Did the 5 year old have any gang affiliations(sad to have to ask but)?
- Is this an area where drug dealers might stash guns outside so they aren't caught with them by police?
- Who else might have left an accessible gun?
