Memorial Day
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them. For the Fallen- Lord Byron

Overheard in the Living Room
HH; "Honey if your size starts at 2x and your heading for 3, those people aren't trolls they're just trying to protect others from seeing you in a swimsuit."
Me: "Why do people insist on making the national shortage of eye-bleach worse?"

Rant-mode
Listen neighbor lady I know that I'll be paying for your sprog's eventual third strike incarceration but do you have to turn them lose outside at the very time that parents who actually love their children are trying to get them to bed so that they get enough sleep to grow into contributing members of society. Someone is going to have to pay your future bogus SSI checks.
I swear I don't even need to pull of video of a Trump/Sanders rally to watch Idiocracy happening before my very eyes. Where's a soma when you need it or failing that a nice island to be shipped to?

Enthusiasm Gap
Just as a very unscientific southwest Missouri bumper-sticker poll it's highly disturbing that I see at least three Sanders bumper stickers for every Hillary or Trump one.

Monday Made Me Laugh Quietly Comrade
I'm wondering how much more time the person who set up Hillary's server will get than she did, or how much more time the accountant of Trump university will get than Trump for that scam?

Conscience and Patriotism
This has to be my nerdy response to the "Vote for Trump or You're Effectively Voting Hillary" people. Pirate's Cove has more.
So that's where I stand, Trumpary will have to move me because I'm not going anywhere."I remember the first time I really understood what it was to be an American...What it was to be a patriot.""I was just a kid...A million years ago, it seems sometimes. Maybe twelve. I was reading Mark Twain. And he wrote something that struck me right down to my core...something so powerful, so true, that it changed my life. I memorized it so I could repeat it to myself, over and over across the years. He wrote --'In a republic, who is the country? Is it the government which is for the moment in the saddle? Why, the government is merely a temporary servant: it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn't. It's function is to obey orders, not originate them.Who, then is the country? Is it the newspaper? Is it the pulpit? Why, these are mere parts of the country, not the whole of it, they have not command, they have only their little share in the command. In a monarchy, the king and his family are the country: In a republic it is the common voice of the people each of you, for himself, by himself and on his own responsibility, must speak. It is a solemn and weighty responsibility, and not lightly to be flung aside at the bullying of pulpit, press, government, or the empty catchphrases of politicians. Each must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, and which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man.To decide it against your convictions is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may.If you alone of all the nation shall decide one way, and that way be the right way according to your convictions of the right, you have your duty by yourself and by your country. Hold up your head. You have nothing to be ashamed of'."Cap continues, "Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree besides the river of truth, and tell the whole world----No,you move."

So He's Supposed to be Good At This? (Part 2 the Sequel)
Okay Finance 080 because Finance 101 is too hard for some people.
When you own a legal printing press running it just to pay your bills is how you default. One more time in large cheerful letters:“’This is the United States government. First of all, you never have to default because you print the money. I hate to tell you. So there’s never a default. But the point is it was reported in the New York Times incorrectly,’ he said, referring to a critical Times article that ran on Friday.”
Devaluation = Default
So what the great business man is proposing is to borrow massive amounts of money, spend it all on "infrastructure" then when the Keynesian economics fail to work we turn the world's(including our) reserve currency into toilet paper.
So you're a money manager in charge of buying government bonds, your job is to get the most profit for the least risk that you can. Do you pay more or less for a 10 year treasury just from these statements from a major political party's presumptive nominee? You're someone who has done the right thing and put 15% of your income back so that you can retire with dignity. Does this make you feel like you have done the wise thing? You've studied the history of hyper-inflation. Does this make you nervous?Monday Made Me Laugh "Supplemental"

better.
The Next Story the Onion has to Scrap
It has to be hard writing for The Onion today, because reality keeps overtaking satire. So how long before we see a headline saying, "Furies Demand Equal Access to Dog Parks", and then we realize that it isn't in The Onion?

So He's Supposed to be Good At This?
Asked whether the United States needed to pay its debts in full, or whether he could negotiate a partial repayment, Mr. Trump told the cable network CNBC, “I would borrow, knowing that if the economy crashed, you could make a deal.”Okay Finance 101 bonds are sold on the open market, that means the less confidence a person buying them has in being paid back the less money he is willing to spend upon them. Effectively this means you have to pay a higher effective interest rate. So when a presumptive Presidential nominee who maximized his own profits by paying vendors 80% on the dollar and telling them that it will cost them more than the 20% to sue him for the difference says something like this what do you think happens to the going price of US bonds.
He added, “And if the economy was good, it was good. So, therefore, you can’t lose.”
We've been insanely fortunate that we've been merely walking wounded in the trauma ward of sovereign debt markets. Markets don't "cut deals"; markets buy and sell.
